Job Summary

Geisinger offers a Nursing Assistant position with a $1500 sign‑on bonus for eligible candidates, a $16.25 minimum hiring rate with increased rates for experienced individuals, and up to $3 shift differentials for evening, nights, and weekend shifts. Up to $40,000 in financial support is also available to become a nurse.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform a wide range of direct patient care activities and clerical duties depending on unit needs.
  • Provide patient care as directed within the nursing assistant scope of practice, meeting the multidisciplinary care plan for each patient.
  • Observe, document, and report the physical needs of patients according to established standards and report changes in condition to licensed personnel promptly.
  • Obtain and maintain specimens in accordance with policy and physician orders, accurately process specimens, and transport them to the laboratory.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living, patient hygiene, and changing linens.
  • Provide one‑to‑one patient safety watch as assigned following established policies and procedures.
  • Perform point‑of‑care testing, instrument maintenance, and quality control.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and supplies issues, taking corrective measures for care and maintenance.
  • Serve as preceptor and mentor for new staff and students in a positive manner.
  • Handle clerical duties for admissions, transfers, discharges, and deaths, transcribing and processing orders per unit standard.
  • Release and confirm ordered tests to appropriate departments and coordinate transportation of patients to multiple tests.
  • Obtain and communicate electronic information pertinent to the nursing unit, scheduling tests, faxes, consults, and ordering supplies.
  • Communicate with food services to ensure appropriate patient diets.
  • Operate and troubleshoot clerical equipment such as computers, fax machines, and phones.
  • Assist with transporting non‑controlled medications to and from Pharmacy and with blood products to and from the Blood Bank as needed.
  • Work in a typical clinical environment while satisfying all job‑specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures.
Position Details

  • Shifts:

    3–12hour periods, 7:00p.m.–7:30a.m.
  • Every other weekend and holiday rotation required.
Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) – Required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of related work experience – Preferred.

  • Communication, computer literacy, customer relationship management (CRM).
  • Interpersonal communication, mathematics, preceptor skills.
