This position focuses on teaching refrigeration mechanic skills through classroom lessons and on‑job training while maintaining order and supporting safe facility operations. It ensures inmates receive structured instruction, useful vocational practice, and clear guidance during daily work tasks. As a Corrections Refrigeration Mechanic Trade Instructor, you will perform the following duties:
- Training Delivery:Teach refrigeration practices, methods, and procedures in classroom and work settings
- Work Supervision:Direct inmate work crews and inspect assigned refrigeration tasks
- Documentation Tracking:Maintain records of inmate progress, attendance, and assignments
- Material Management:Issue and inventory tools and materials used in training and work assignments
- Tool Control:Conduct searches to account for all tools and materials
- Resource Planning:Determine needed materials and submit purchase requests when required

Work Schedule and Additional Information:- Full‑time employment, 40 hours per week
- Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday.
- This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
- Telework:You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $53,036.00 (before taxes).

- Five years of experience in the repair and servicing of refrigeration systems or air conditioning systems; or
- Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the refrigeration or air conditioning mechanic trade; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the refrigeration or air conditioning mechanic trade.
- This position requires possession of an active Universal Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certificate issued by an approved provider.
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
- You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
