The Roadway Programs Technician 2 position with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) offers a chance to grow your technical skills while supporting important pavement evaluation work across the Commonwealth. This position supports pavement evaluation and testing operations throughout the Commonwealth, including advanced data collection and field testing. As a Roadway Programs Technician 2, you will perform the following duties:

  • Field Testing Operations:
    Conduct pavement deflection and profile testing using specialized equipment
  • Data Review:
    Examine output files and prepare collected information for processing
  • Equipment Maintenance:
    Perform scheduled upkeep and ensure all testing tools meet required standards
  • Traffic Coordination:
    Assist with planning and implementing safe and efficient testing operations
  • Record Keeping:
    Maintain accurate logs of test locations, distances, and related information
  • Technical Support:
    Provide guidance to personnel and assist with resolving field testing challenges

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position requires extensive overnight travel statewide. Work schedule during traveling:
    • (3) 10-hour days from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM
    • (1) 7.5-hour day from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM
  • This position may require overtime.
  • Telework:
    You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.

Required Experience, Training & Eligibility:

Qualifications

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Roadway Programs Technician 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • One year of experience in analysis of data utilized in planning and scheduling of work, materials and equipment, and an Associate's Degree in the field of Business Administration, Computer Science, Highway Engineering Technology or closely related program; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Other Requirements:

  • This particular position also requires possession of a current Class C driver's license which is not under suspension.
