Gas Accountant
The Gas Accountant is responsible for analyzing, reconciling, and recording the physical flow of natural gas and related financial transactions associated with BHE Pipeline Group monthly pipeline operations. This role supports accurate accounting and reporting of transportation revenues, fuel activity, and operational transactions while ensuring compliance with regulatory and financial reporting requirements.
At higher levels, the position contributes to the development of business policies, leads special financial and operational studies, and partners with cross-functional teams to provide analyses that support operational, regulatory, and strategic business objectives.
Responsibilities- Analyze and record the physical flow of gas and related financial transactions associated with BHE Pipeline Group monthly pipeline operations.
- Prepare, review, and record transportation revenue and fuel retained or consumed transactions in the general ledger.
- Analyze pipeline operational activities and evaluate related financial accounts to ensure accurate accounting and reporting.
- Prepare and reconcile information between Oracle Fusion general ledger accounts and supporting operational databases.
- Extract, analyze, and interpret data from reporting and analytics systems to support financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and business decision-making.
- Assist in the preparation of reports and analyses supporting operational, financial, and regulatory requirements.
- Respond to customer account inquiries and provide accounting-related support to internal and external stakeholders. Strong written and verbal communication.
- Strong focus on outstanding Accounts Receivable balances including weekly management reporting and monthly executive reporting.
- Serve as a technical resource for accounting staff by sharing knowledge, reviewing work, and providing guidance as appropriate based on experience level.
- Provide accounting and financial expertise in support of projects, system enhancements, and process improvement initiatives.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
This is a multi-level posting. Candidates may be considered for any posted level based on their experience, qualifications, and demonstrated expertise.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting is required.
- CPA and/or MBA preferred.
Accountant
- Zero to two years of accounting experience.
- Experience with computerized accounting systems.
Senior Accountant
- Two or more years of related accounting or finance experience.
Technical Accountant
- Four or more years of accounting experience, including financial analysis or complex accounting matters.
Senior Technical Accountant
- Six or more years of accounting experience, including reporting, analysis, or accounting research.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with Northern Natural Gas tariff provisions and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) gas accounting provisions.
- Experience with Oracle Fusion or similar enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
- Experience working with reporting, business intelligence, or analytics platforms.
- Experience reconciling complex general ledger accounts, accounts receivable, and intercompany transactions.
