Job Description & How to Apply Below
We are hiring a Manufacturing Cost Accountant to own product cost accuracy across our manufacturing operations. This role ensures Bills of Materials (BOMs), routings, labor standards, and overhead costs reflect how products are actually built—not outdated assumptions.
This is a hands‑on role that works closely with Operations, Engineering, and Production to identify margin leakage, eliminate cost noise, and connect quoting, production, and profitability. The right candidate is detail‑driven, comfortable on the plant floor, and confident using data to challenge assumptions.
Key Responsibilities Product Costing & Standards- Own and maintain BOMs, routings, and labor standards
- Validate material usage, scrap, run rates, and setup times with Operations and Engineering
- Ensure standards reflect real production methods
- Analyze estimated vs. actual margins by product, order, and customer
- Identify root causes of labor, material, freight, and overhead variances
- Distinguish true cost issues from volume and mix impacts
- Maintain and update standard costs based on material pricing, labor rates, and process changes
- Lead annual and ad hoc re‑costing tied to pricing and budgeting
- Ensure standards are accurate, realistic, and actionable
- Work directly with plant leadership, supervisors, and engineers
- Support lean and continuous improvement initiatives by quantifying savings
- Translate shop floor activity into clear financial insight
- Maintain costing data in the ERP system
- Develop reports that provide visibility into margins and cost drivers
- Support audits and inventory valuation with sound costing documentation
- Leadership trusts reported margins
- Pricing decisions are based on current cost data
- Variances clearly explain what changed and why
- Operations and Finance share one version of cost truth
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5+ years of manufacturing cost accounting experience (discrete manufacturing)
- Strong experience with BOMs, routings, labor standards, and overhead absorption
- ERP experience with manufacturing modules
- Advanced Excel skills
- Comfortable working on the plant floor
- Multi‑SKU or make‑to‑order manufacturing environments
- Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement exposure
- Experience partnering with Engineering teams
