Job SummaryThe Student Nurse Technician supports patient care activities under the supervision and direction of a Registered Nurse. This role provides hands-on clinical experience for nursing students while contributing directly to safe, high-quality patient care on the nursing unit.
Key Responsibilities- Perform all duties of a Nurse Aide as assigned.
- Assist with admission assessments under RN supervision.
- Provide wound care following demonstrated competency and supervision requirements.
- Perform care and maintenance of drainage tubes after required checkoffs.
- Assist with surgery preparation and pre-operative care.
- Chart patient care and treatments accurately in the electronic medical record.
- Assist in developing patient care plans with RN co-signature.
- Remove IVs, saline locks, Foley catheters, and obtain sterile urine specimens following required supervision.
- Perform wound cultures and oral suction after required training and supervision.
- Insert Foley catheters only after nursing program instruction and supervised competency validation.
- Carry out physician orders under RN supervision.
- Recognize emergency situations and respond appropriately.
Required
- Currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited nursing program.
- Completion of at least two full semesters of nursing coursework and participation in clinical rotations.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
Preferred
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
