Job Summary

The Student Nurse Technician supports patient care activities under the supervision and direction of a Registered Nurse. This role provides hands-on clinical experience for nursing students while contributing directly to safe, high-quality patient care on the nursing unit.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform all duties of a Nurse Aide as assigned.
  • Assist with admission assessments under RN supervision.
  • Provide wound care following demonstrated competency and supervision requirements.
  • Perform care and maintenance of drainage tubes after required checkoffs.
  • Assist with surgery preparation and pre-operative care.
  • Chart patient care and treatments accurately in the electronic medical record.
  • Assist in developing patient care plans with RN co-signature.
  • Remove IVs, saline locks, Foley catheters, and obtain sterile urine specimens following required supervision.
  • Perform wound cultures and oral suction after required training and supervision.
  • Insert Foley catheters only after nursing program instruction and supervised competency validation.
  • Carry out physician orders under RN supervision.
  • Recognize emergency situations and respond appropriately.
Job Qualifications

Required

  • Currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited nursing program.
  • Completion of at least two full semesters of nursing coursework and participation in clinical rotations.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.

Preferred

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
