Must be a licensed Attorney Admission to the New York State Bar required Excellent writing and legal research skills 5 to 10 years of experience, preferably in litigation, labor and employment, and/or education law Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively with clients and colleagues.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide legal counsel and support to public school districts in New York State. Advise clients on federal and state education laws, including IDEA, Section 504, FERPA, Title IX, and Dignity for All Students Act. Represent School Districts in administrative hearings, including special education impartial hearings, employee discipline proceedings (Education Law §3020-a and Civil Service Law §75) and student disciplinary proceedings pursuant to Education Law §3214.
Participate in labor negotiations with various unions as well as defend School Districts in grievances and actions before the Public Employment Relations Board. Conduct internal investigations, including those involving student discipline and staff conduct. Draft legal documents, including memoranda, policies, contracts, and pleadings. Provide general education legal advice to School Districts on matters relating to residency, freedom of information law requests, and other matters.
Provide in-service training to school administrators and board members. About the opportunity:
