Position Summary & Purpose

An opportunity for someone to get in at the beginning stages of developing a Quality System. Will work directly with operators, supervisors, and QC technicians to develop and oversee the Inspection Plan Process. This person will be instrumental in building this brand new system and then helping to maintain it. The role will require significant interaction with operators and will spend 50% of their time on the shop floor helping to integrate the Inspection plans.

This will provide an opportunity for the person to gain valuable experience across many different manufacturing platforms. The other 50% of their time will be spent on a computer reviewing part drawings, developing the inspection plans, entering data from completed plans, and manipulating the data to create reports and conducting analysis.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Work with the existing QC team and operators to create and develop Part Inspection Plans.
  • Look at a part drawing and identify the critical features to be measured.
  • Establish the appropriate measuring tools that will be needed.
  • Confirm whether we have the appropriate measuring tools and identify any gaps.
  • Work with QC Manager to establish the frequency for measuring for each part.
  • Use this information to create the Inspection Plan based on a pre-existing template.
  • Manage the Part Inspection Database by making changes when needed. Inspection plans will be updated as new part revisions are released.
Qualifications
  • Experience in a shop environment and an understanding of the required level of safety and what to expect from daily on-the-floor work.
  • Good verbal communication skills to interact with operators, supervisors, and QC team regarding technical details of work.
  • Ability to create spreadsheets of intermediate complexity (vlookup, conditional formatting, linking cells on different tabs and workbooks).
  • Ability to create forms, tables and other basic data presentation tools.
  • Understanding of how to read drawings and knowledge of GD&T.
  • Organized and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to calculate and understand basic statistical measures – knowledge of +/- sigma variations.
  • Ability to work with, and manipulate, large amounts of data – pivot tables, graphing, sorting.
Valued but not required
  • Background in engineering/manufacturing principles, First Article Inspections, FMEA analysis, Cp & Cpk, gauge R&R, quality processes, part inspection experience, and capability analysis.
Physical Demands and Work Environment

Physical demands: Employee occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth vision perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Work environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
