We are currently seeking an experienced, self-starter and goal-oriented candidate to fill the role of Safety Coordinator working in our Harrison, Ohio facility. This position supports the Client site and personnel with safety inspections, compliance program implementation, project planning, employee training, and other safety and health services.
Responsibilities are as follows:
Lead Safety- Champion company’s Begin-End Safe Onsite culture
- Understand operations schedule for risk planning
- Ensure effective understanding, communication and consistent reinforcement of both site and client’s safety expectations and objectives in partnership with site and HSE leadership
- Develop & Manage relationships at all levels including projects/craft, shop, site leadership and client’s corporate individuals
- Ensure to develop and cultivate relationships external to the company, including subcontractors, regulatory entities, medical service providers and other appropriate venders.
- Attend /Participate in Industry/Regulatory Trade Groups
- Trend and Benchmark Safety Performance – Monitor/Review internal reporting requirements
- Develop and support execution of action plans for Safety Performance
- Participate and provide guidance in HSE related Safety Committees
- Consistent presence on shop floors – Timely response to questions or issues
- Lead/ Participate in the morning STA review as assigned
- Ensure consistent communication and timely delivery on internal projects & tasks
Work with Site Management teams on job site safety planning, including but not limited to the following
- Maintains site-wide HSE programs and policies in alignment with corporate and Senior HSE Manager direction
- Participates in assigned or required safety meetings
- Coordinate and/or administers safety orientations for new personnel
- Assures timely investigations, inspections, and reporting of HSE matters within the area assigned
- Conduct weekly site safety inspections, identify trends, and assist with corrective actions
Maintains records, reports, and documents to meet company or regulatory requirements. - Complete site walks and enter observations
- Ensure understanding of site needs by individual engagement of project staff
- Participate in and support incident investigations, including data collection and documentation, in coordination with Senior HSE leadership
Development and implementation of safety programs:
- Training programs focusing on the specific needs of a site
- Monthly New Hire training, including Fall Protection and equipment training
- Development of safety toolbox talks
- Hazard Recognition tools & skill development
- Mentor & assist site staff and provide support during new hire onboarding
- Provide safety knowledge and expertise to support consistency in safety policies and procedures throughout project
- Assist with environmental and industrial hygiene activities, including coordination of IH monitoring (silica, noise, asbestos, lead, mold), utilizing internal resources or external consultants as appropriate
- Assist company personnel in the development, revision and implementation of new or updated policies, procedures or task specific work instructions
- Ensure proper risk assessment has been completed and that risk is defined and communicated to appropriate decision makers
- Participate as, or call upon, internal SMEs for site aspects requiring task specific consultation
- Support implementation and maintenance of emergency response systems, policies, and procedures
- Prepare data analysis and reports and assist with interpretation of safety and health requirements in support of site and corporate objectives.
- Partner with the site staff to interpret and evaluate internal safety requirements, accident investigation, and implementation of corrective action measures
- Completion of paperwork, associated with safety inspections, permits, accident/incident follow-up, OSHA inspections, employee training, and safety orientations
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Health, and Safety or related field plus 1 – 3 years of industry and/or construction experience OR 5 – 7 years of equivalent work experience.
- OSHA 30 hr. certification
- Technical working knowledge of OSHA, EPA and DOT regulations
- Practical experience in employee safety and equipment competency training
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Proficient in MS-Word, Excel, and Power Point
- Possess all auditory, speaking and communicating capabilities
- Physical requirements:
sitting, standing, walking, bending, twisting, climbing, pushing, pulling, lifting up to 25lbs., seeing and reading
