Are you a visual storyteller who can see the story before the first clip is even dropped into the timeline? We’re looking for a Video Editor at WHSV who doesn't just "cut video" but crafts the visual rhythm of our newscasts. Whether it’s a high‑stakes lead for the 5 p.m. or a punchy social clip that stops the scroll, you’re the one who brings our journalism to life with speed, precision, and a sharp eye for the perfect shot.
Responsibilities- Craft the newscast:
Edit high‑quality, compelling video for our 5 p.m., 6 p.m., 10 p.m., and 11 p.m. broadcasts, ensuring every frame matches the script and the moment. - Support the digital mission:
Clip and optimize video to attach to our web stories—ensuring our audience gets the full story, no matter where they’re watching. - Collaborate with the pros:
Work side‑by‑side with producers to find the perfect shots and turn raw footage into a polished narrative. - Provide technical backup:
Act as the go‑to for technical support when the team needs a hand navigating our editing systems. - Manage the gear:
Help monitor and maintain our camera equipment and field gear, ensuring everything is mission‑ready for the team. - Jump into the action:
Step up to shoot breaking news when the story demands it or grab a camera to cover local games when the sports department needs a hand—you’re not just behind a desk; you’re part of the front‑line news team. - Maintain the flow:
Keep our video assets organized and accessible so the whole newsroom can move as fast as the news does.
- Technical chops:
You’re a pro (or a fast learner) with Adobe Premiere, Edius, or similar non‑linear editing software. - A sharp eye for detail:
You take pride in your work and notice the small things that others might miss—no jump cuts on your watch! - The “Pressure” Gene:
You thrive when the clock is ticking toward a 5 p.m. deadline and keep your cool when things get hectic. - A positive, team‑first attitude:
You’re a partner to our producers and a boost to our newsroom culture. - Visual intuition:
You have a natural ability to match video to scripts in a way that enhances the story rather than just filling space. - Adaptability:
You’re ready to pivot from editing a feature story to grabbing a camera for breaking news or a Friday night football game at a moment’s notice.
