About the Position
The Natural Sciences Department at Eastern Mennonite University (EMU) invites applications for a tenure-track or non‑tenure‑track assistant professor in Environmental Science and Biology. Grounded in EMU’s commitments to active faith, peace and justice, academic excellence, and sustainability and stewardship, the department emphasizes hands‑on learning, mentorship, and community building.
PositionTenure-track or non‑tenure‑track Assistant Professor in the Environmental Science and Biology programs.
Qualifications- Ph.D. in Environmental Science, Biology, or a related field.
- College‑level teaching and/or post‑doctoral experience preferred.
- ABD candidates will be considered at the rank of instructor.
- Teaching load may include undergraduate courses in environmental science, ecology, organismal biology, GIS, environmental policy and ethics, and potential electives within the candidate’s area of expertise. Typical load: 3–4 courses per semester (nine‑month contract, 24 SH per year).
- Develop an ongoing scholarly research agenda that can involve undergraduate students (tenure‑track required).
- Provide department and university service through advising, mentoring a diverse student body, and participation on university committees.
- Provide faculty service at the departmental and university levels.
- Advise and mentor students and participate on university committees.
9‑month contract; 24 semester hours per year. Salary determined by education and experience. EMU uses a tenure‑with‑review contract system. A track record of active, inclusive, student‑centered teaching is preferred. Applicants must have a strong commitment to serving and working within a community of diverse learners.
Appointment DatePositions begin mid‑August 2026. EMU reserves the right to fill the position at any time or keep the position open.
