Job DescriptionThe Coordinator of Student Support provides leadership and support for division-wide student support initiatives that promote student success, engagement, and equitable access to services. The position collaborates with Student Services, Special Education, school administrators, and community partners to strengthen systems that support students with behavioral, attendance, social-emotional, and complex educational needs.
The Coordinator serves as a resource for schools by providing consultation, coaching, professional learning, and coordination of supports for students who require collaborative problem‑solving across departments and agencies. The position also helps sustain restorative practices and proactive behavior supports as part of a comprehensive student support framework.
Qualifications- Demonstrates strong knowledge of student behavior supports, restorative practices, school discipline, and special education services and supports.
- Possess or qualify for a Virginia Postgraduate Professional license in Administration and Supervision PreK-12 endorsement, or a Master’s Degree in a related field preferred.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
- Experience working directly with individuals and families from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Experience working with diverse learning needs and with children who may benefit from alternative learning models is preferred.
- Familiarity with racial equity and inclusion frameworks.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to present to diverse audiences, specifically racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically, and other marginalized communities to foster professional relationships and express and/or exchange ideas.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to flex communication style to multiple cultural environments to improve instructional practices.
- Proficiency in the use of a variety of office equipment and technology with experience using Google Suite, email, and information system applications.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, administrators, and the community.
- Proficiency in business English: spelling, grammar, and spoken language.
- Emotionally mature, objective, and sensitive to people and their concerns. Able to handle responsibility, work independently, and maintain collaborative working relationships with students, families, administration, co‑workers, and the community.
- Provide consultation to administrators and school student support teams regarding complex student situations involving behavior, attendance, social‑emotional needs, and school engagement.
- Participate in multidisciplinary problem‑solving teams when students require coordinated support across departments.
- Support school teams in the development and coordination of student support strategies for students with intensive needs.
- Serve as a liaison between Student Services and Special Education to strengthen collaboration and alignment of supports.
- Assist in coordinating services for students whose needs span multiple systems.
- Collaborate with school psychologists, counselors, social workers, behavior specialists, restorative practices facilitators, administrators, and special education staff to address barriers to student success.
- Supports the effective implementation of MTSS structures across schools by assisting in the coordination and alignment of academic, behavioral, and social‑emotional interventions for students with complex needs, in partnership with Student Services, Special Education, and school‑based teams.
- Support implementation of initiatives that promote inclusion, student engagement, and positive outcomes.
- Provide coaching, consultation, and professional learning related to behavior support, de‑escalation, conflict resolution, restorative practices, and trauma‑informed approaches.
