KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESCandidate must possess thorough knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act of 2004 (IDEA); a thorough knowledge of the evaluation/identification and needs of students with disabilities; an extensive knowledge of the specially designed instruction to support the needs of diverse learners academically and behaviorally; a thorough knowledge of various methods of data collection and subsequent analysis and interpretation of data to drive appropriate instructional recommendations, decisions and interventions;
a thorough knowledge of varied teaching practices and strategies, classroom accommodations, modifications, classroom management, and varied assessment techniques; a thorough knowledge of instruction and education principles, practices, and procedures; a thorough knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching; a thorough knowledge of school division rules, regulations, and procedures; the knowledge of data disaggregation for the purpose of evaluating student growth;
the ability to engage, encourage, and motivate students, parents, and staff; the ability to establish and maintain standards of behavior; the ability to communicate effectively with adult learners; the ability to deliver articulate oral presentations and written reports; and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students, administration, and parents.
Candidate must be a graduate of an accredited college or university, hold an active teaching license and possess a minimum of three years of successful teaching experience in public education, particularly in the area of Special Education. A Master’s degree in Special Education or a related field is preferred.
