Primary Function: Assists teachers in providing for the individual needs of the student so that each student can achieve maximum academic and social potential.
Qualifications- Completed 2 years of college (associate's or bachelor's degree preferred).
- Proficiency in spoken and written communication.
- Ability to establish and follow detailed work procedures quickly and accurately.
- Bilingual ability preferred.
- Emotionally mature, objective, and sensitive to the needs of others; able to handle responsibility, work independently, and maintain collaborative relationships with students, families, and co‑workers.
- Demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions.
- Experience working directly with individuals and families from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Familiarity with equity and inclusion frameworks; models non‑discriminatory practices.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to present to diverse audiences.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with office and instructional equipment and technology, including Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and email.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities and personal characteristics for working effectively with students, teachers, administrators, and the community.
- Conduct learning exercises (provides instruction) to the whole class, small groups, and individual students.
- Inform the teacher of any special information or concerns about an individual student.
- Assist the teacher in providing for the individual instructional, behavioral, and daily living needs of students, including assistance with personal hygiene tasks for students with special needs.
- Assist with record keeping, filing, organizing materials, and preparing instructional/classroom materials.
- Support an inviting and functional classroom while caring for material and equipment.
- Provide clerical assistance as required.
- Assist with supervision of children.
- Serve as the chief source of information for any substitute teacher in the area.
- Provide lunch supervision and/or bus duties as assigned.
- Substitute for teachers when needed.
- Take industry‑standard precautions to protect students, staff, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Participate in staff development and training to keep materials, supplies, and skills up to date.
- Follow appropriate safety procedures and maintain equipment properly.
- Actively participate in and attend all required meetings.
- Maintain confidentiality when appropriate.
- Comply with and support school division policies, regulations, procedures, and the HCPS Strategic Plan.
- Effectively perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Light work, lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently. Regular travel throughout the school; requires vocal communication, hearing, and visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and observe surroundings. Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
EvaluationPerformance will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on the evaluation of administrative or licensed personnel.
