Organization Overview Founded in 1987, Skyline Literacy provides needs-based instruction for adults in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County in Literacy, English (ESOL), Digital Literacy, and Citizenship through trained volunteers. The Children’s Program supports families by providing a safe and engaging space for children while parents attend ESOL classes. Position Summary
The Work-Study Student Assistant supports the Children’s Program Coordinator in delivering a structured, safe, and engaging environment for children ages 4–12. This role is ideal for students interested in education, child development, nonprofit work, or community engagement.
Key Responsibilities :
- Assist with setup and cleanup of the program space each evening
- Support volunteers in facilitating activities such as reading, crafts, and games
- Help supervise children and promote a safe, inclusive, and positive environment
- Assist with sign-in/sign-out procedures to ensure children are released safely
- Help organize and distribute materials for activities
- Support smooth transitions between activities
- Communicate any concerns or incidents to the Coordinator
- Assist with light administrative tasks (attendance tracking, organizing forms)
- Help maintain cleanliness and organization of the program space

Preferred Qualifications :
- Interest in education, child development, social work, or related fields
- Experience working with children (preferred but not required)

- Positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Ability to follow directions and respond appropriately in a fast-paced setting
