General Information“The Department of Engineering at James Madison University (JMU) invites applicants to join our community and support our project‑intensive undergraduate engineering curriculum. We are seeking to hire at least one Visiting Lecturer to start in August 2026. The position will be for an initial ten‑month period; there may be the possibility of a subsequent one‑time renewal.”
This department offers an ABET‑accredited BS degree in engineering with new concentrations in civil and environmental, geo‑environmental, and electromechanical systems. The engineering major emphasizes experiential learning in team‑based settings and culminates in a two‑year project experience.
Duties and Responsibilities- Teach undergraduate engineering courses in one or more of the following thematic areas:
Introductory electrical and computer engineering courses (ENGR 313 and ENGR 345);
Engineering analysis and data analytics (ENGR 315);
Microprocessors and embedded system design (ENGR 445);
Engineering fundamentals and design (ENGR 112, ENGR 231, and ENGR 232). - Support the department’s mission and contribute to a welcoming scholarly environment.
- Potential for professional development within the department, college, and university.
Successful candidates will have a Master’s degree, demonstrated relevant professional experience, and a PhD in hand by the time of appointment.
Preference will be given to candidates with:
- Degrees in engineering or closely related field.
- Demonstrated experience teaching undergraduate engineering courses.
- Relevant industrial engineering experience.
- Potential to emerge as agile and adaptive educators capable of teaching across the undergraduate curriculum.
