General Information

The University Health Center provides a comprehensive array of healthcare services and health education programs to JMU students. Included in our health care services are several medical clinics, a pharmacy, a medical laboratory, and other programs that provide services for more than 30,000 patient encounters a year. UHC practices evidence-based medicine in a confidential, inclusive environment.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist the Registered Dietitian in maintaining clinical operations for optimal functioning.
  • Serve as an administrative assistant for communication with any potential undergraduate or graduate nutrition students.
  • Develop, market, and/or facilitate group nutrition education classes based on educational background and skill set.
  • Research on clinical nutrition issues and/or development of educational handouts or social media campaigns as needed.
  • Collaboration with a Registered Dietitian on program development and nutrition services outreach opportunities on campus.
  • Attendance at and participation in the yearly All-Staff Retreat.
Qualifications
  • Must be a full‑time graduate degree‑seeking student at JMU.
  • Must be in a graduate program in Applied Nutrition.
  • Preference for those with the willingness and ability to quickly learn EHR systems (e.g., Medicat) or other new systems as needed.
  • Preference for those with excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to adhere to a strict confidentiality policy.
  • Experience and familiarity with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and/or willingness and ability to further develop Microsoft Office software skills as needed.
  • Strong communication skills (both interpersonal and via electronic communication).
  • Able to work both independently and in coordination with the supervisor to develop and complete assigned tasks.
  • Prepared and willing to ask questions as needed.
  • Adaptable to changing needs during a time of program development for nutrition services.
  • Must be able to maintain a steady 10‑hour‑per‑week work schedule throughout the 2025‑2026 academic year.
  • Need to have some availability 8 am‑5 pm Monday through Friday, with flexibility for some evening hours.

Students must be degree‑seeking students, enrolled on at least a half‑time basis (6 credits for undergraduate and 5 credits for graduate).
