Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

The Licensed Practical Nurse functions under the supervision of an RN or Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP) in a clinical setting, within the scope of practice dictated by state nursing boards. The LPN demonstrates professional and clinical knowledge relative to the designated practice setting in the delivery of direct patient care, adheres to the verified competency level set by the site‑specific program, and works as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities include providing direct patient care, medication administration, nursing interventions, care planning, teaching patients and families, and serving as a patient advocate in prevention of illness or disease. The LPN may work in hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, outpatient clinics, or private homes.
