Park Grounds Maintenance Laborer

The Park Grounds Maintenance Laborer position is a seasonal position (no benefits) with a preferred hiring rate of $14.93 per hour. The ideal candidates for this position will perform a variety of manual labor work in the care and maintenance of park grounds.

• Mowing/edging of parks or other grounds;
• Weedeating;
• General landscape installation and maintenance;
• Painting;
• Pressure washing;
• Performing light construction;
• Cleaning restrooms;
• Collecting trash;
• Using a variety of equipment and power tools, including but not limited to blowers, power-washers, lawn mowers, trimmers, and edgers;
• Assisting with installation, maintenance, and repair projects, as needed.

This is heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, and feeling. Vocal communication is required for conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly;

hearing is required to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arm's length, operation of machines, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions.

The worker may be exposed to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.

• Completion of the tenth grade or an equivalent combination of education and experience. High school diploma or GED, preferred.
• Applicants must be at least 18 years of age at hire date (approximately 4 weeks after initial application date), due to the type of power tools utilized in this position.
• Possession of a valid driver's license.
• Availability to work a flexible schedule, including approximately 1 weekend per month.
• Experience in park or general maintenance is preferred but not required.

• Some knowledge of the safe use, operation, and preventive maintenance of the equipment assigned;
• Skill in the use of hand tools and equipment assigned;
• Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions.
