Overview
The Armed Special Conservator of the Peace (SCOP) is a sworn law enforcement officer appointed by a court and authorized under state law to perform limited policing duties within a designated jurisdiction.
As an armed SCOP, the officer is authorized to carry a firearm and enforce laws within the scope of their commission. Their duties may include protecting people and property, conducting patrols, detaining suspects, responding to incidents, writing detailed reports, and coordinating with local law enforcement when necessary. Actively monitors Concealed Weapons Detection System(s) at division entrances. In the event a weapon is found, the armed officer will inform the visitor/patient that the weapon is not allowed in the hospital.
Officers may secure the weapon for the duration of the persons’ visit for safekeeping.
Armed SCOP operates under strict regulatory and training standards, including background checks, firearms qualifications, and legal knowledge. They hold law enforcement authority in their appointed jurisdiction and must uphold high standards of professionalism, discretion, and situational awareness.
Education- High School Diploma or equivalent (Required)
- Driver License - Certification - Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (VDMV) (Required)
- Special Conservators of the Peace (SCOP) – Certification - Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) (Required)
- Certified Healthcare Security Officer (CHSO) - Certification - International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety (IAHSS) (Required)
- Private Security Services Registration/Armed - Certification - Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) (Required)
- Two years of Security (Required)
