Security Officer- Armed

Overview

The Armed Security Officer provides a physically safe and secure environment for patients, visitors and employees at Sentara hospitals and free‑standing emergency departments. Officers exercise discretion regarding weapon use, applying it only in extreme situations after all non‑violent options have been exhausted. The officer monitors Concealed Weapons Detection Systems, patrols the campus, maintains logs, and conducts investigations.

Harrisonburg, VA

Rotating shifts, full time.

• Actively monitor Concealed Weapons Detection System(s) at division entrances and inform visitors/patients of prohibited weapons.
• Secure weapons for safekeeping during visitors’ or patients’ stay.
• Patrol campus and monitor activity around buildings and grounds, responding appropriately to routine and emergency situations.
• Perform camera surveillance and maintain department logs and records.
• Use computer skills for documentation of daily activities and conduct security investigations.
• Evaluate situations and take appropriate steps for professional and timely resolution.

• High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required)

• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record (Required)
• Virginia DCJS – Armed Officer Certificate within 90 days of hire (Required)
• Certified Healthcare Security Officer (CHSO) certification by IAHSS within 90 days of hire (Required)

• One year of security experience (Required)
• Former military, law enforcement, or security officer experience preferred
