Sentara Rockingham Memorial Hospital is hiring an Armed Security Officer

Rotating full time

The Armed Security Officer provides a physically safe and secure environment for patients, visitors and employees. All officers exercise discretion regarding weapon use, utilizing only during extreme attacks when all non‑violent options have been exhausted. The officer actively monitors Concealed Weapons Detection System(s) at division entrances. In the event a weapon is found, the officer informs the visitor/patient that the weapon is not allowed in the hospital, may secure the weapon for safekeeping.

Officers patrol campus and monitor activity in and around buildings and grounds, respond to routine and emergency situations, perform camera surveillance, maintain department logs and records, use computer skills for documentation of daily activities, conduct security investigations, evaluate situations, and take timely steps for professional resolution.

• Monitor Concealed Weapons Detection System(s) at division entrances.
• Inform visitors/patients of prohibited weapons and secure weapons for safekeeping.
• Patrol campus and monitor activity in and around buildings and grounds.
• Respond to routine and emergency situations.
• Perform camera surveillance and maintain department logs.

• Conduct security investigations and evaluate situations.
• Take timely and professional actions for resolution.

• High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required)
• Valid Driver's License with acceptable driving record (Required)
• One year of security experience (Required)
• Former military, law enforcement, or security officer experience preferred
• Fit for Duty assessment: minimum standard of fitness
• Psychological Evaluation and Assessment by Sentara Service Provider
• Virginia DCJS – Armed Officer Certificate within 90 days of hire (Required)
• Certified Healthcare Security Officer (CHSO) certification by IAHSS within 90 days of hire (Required)
