General InformationFacilities Management at JMU currently has an open position for a Carpenter Senior. This position ensures safety and security of JMU buildings and structures by providing quality work on a variety of structures using various materials and ensuring code compliance.
Duties and Responsibilities- Installing, repairing and replacing new and existing doors
- Installing and repairing various door closures, electronic locks and latches
- Constructing, fabricating, repairing and maintaining a variety of structures, displays, storage units among other items consisting of wood, plastic Corian, Lexan, laminates, etc.
- Completing projects that require creative solutions, research and design
- Repairing anything made of wood such as desks, furniture and cabinets
- Erecting new walls and repairing existing walls consistent with state and federal code regulations
- Consulting and assisting engineers, electricians, plumbers and utility shop on university wide projects
- Extensive experience using electrical and manual power tools safely and effectively related to the carpentry trade
- Demonstrated ability to install fixtures and repair furniture
- Extensive knowledge of carpentry principles, practices and techniques
Knowledge of building trades - Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Ability to fulfill rotating on call responsibilities and accommodate any necessary temporary shift demands
