Summary

The Breeder Service Technician is responsible for managing the relationship between George’s and contractor growers, inspecting farms for compliance with contractual agreements, animal welfare and biosecurity regulations, and animal husbandry practices. The technician ensures that each grower achieves performance metrics by recommending changes in facilities, equipment, and medication to improve production based on poultry farming, hatchery operations, and processing knowledge.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Inspect farms for compliance with contract and cooperative agreement standards and advise farmers on development programs to improve poultry production.
  • Tour farms to assess facilities and equipment for adequacy, sanitation, and operational efficiency.
  • Examine chickens for evidence of disease and growth rate to evaluate medication and feeding effectiveness.
  • Recommend changes in facilities, equipment, and medication to enhance production.
  • Inform farmers of new procedures, techniques, government regulations, and company/association production standards.
  • Recommend laboratory testing of diseased chickens, feeds, and supplements, or collect samples and send them to a plant laboratory for analysis.
  • Report findings on farm conditions, laboratory tests, recommendations, and farmer responses to management.
  • Apply proper animal welfare techniques and follow biosecurity guidelines as approved by the manager.
  • Analyze reports for hatch, fertility, weight, etc., and develop action plans for improvement.
  • Manage the full lifecycle of birds older than 18 months.
  • Oversee the production and placement of more than 4 million eggs per week.
  • Handle an operating budget of over $25 million.
Supervisory Responsibilities

This position will not have supervisory responsibility.

Education and Experience

Required:

High School Diploma or equivalent with 3+ years of experience in live poultry operations, OR a Bachelor’s Degree in Poultry Science, Animal Science, or a related field.

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.

Preferred MTech experience.
