Equipment Engineer
Job Description
The Equipment Engineer supports large-scale manufacturing and expansion projects by leading equipment installations, managing vendor coordination, and ensuring successful commissioning of complex process systems. This role focuses on melting process equipment, working closely with design, facilities, and manufacturing teams to improve layouts, implement updated technologies, and drive project execution. The engineer plays a critical role in project management, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement while ensuring installations are completed efficiently and meet engineering and operational requirements.
Responsibilities
Lead melting process equipment installations, including rebuilds, fabrication oversight, installation, construction activities, and start-up support.
Provide leadership and guidance throughout equipment fabrication, installation, and commissioning phases.
Apply and promote strong project management practices to ensure timelines, budgets, and deliverables are met.
Adapt and implement new equipment installation technologies where appropriate to improve efficiency and performance.
Investigate equipment performance and recommend design modifications to enhance reliability and functionality.
Manage logistics for incoming equipment orders, ensuring proper coordination with project schedules.
Serve as the primary point of contact between vendors and internal project teams, facilitating communication and issue resolution.
Provide onsite support at vendor locations during fabrication and final equipment checkout processes.
Collaborate with design teams to review layouts and ensure design documentation reflects the latest technology and best practices.
Work closely with manufacturing and facilities teams to incorporate feedback and improve equipment and process designs.
Provide CAD support using AutoCAD to review and update layouts and equipment drawings.
Create and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to equipment installation, operation, and maintenance.
Participate in commissioning activities to ensure equipment is properly installed, tested, and operational.
Troubleshoot equipment issues and support process improvement initiatives within manufacturing operations.
Provide leadership and coaching to team members to strengthen installation capabilities and technical knowledge.
Travel to global operations for project meetings, equipment installations, and commissioning efforts.
Support off-hours meetings and extended work schedules as needed to align with international teams and project demands.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
5+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering and/or project management.
Strong project management experience, including managing vendors, schedules, and project timelines.
Experience working with manufacturing processes in equipment-intensive environments.
Hands-on experience with equipment installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
Proficiency in AutoCAD for reviewing and updating layouts and drawings.
Experience creating and maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with an innovative and customer-focused mindset.
Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Strong communication skills to collaborate with internal teams and external vendors.
Willingness and ability to travel for project execution and support.

Work Environment
This role operates primarily on a standard schedule of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with extended hours required during critical project phases, construction periods, and international coordination. During active installation or construction, hours may extend from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional Saturday work as needed. The position involves working in industrial and manufacturing environments, including time spent on-site managing equipment installation, fabrication, and commissioning.
The role requires frequent collaboration with design, manufacturing, facilities, and vendor teams, as well as travel to global locations for project execution. The environment is fast-paced and project-driven, emphasizing innovation, teamwork, and continuous improvement while supporting large capital expansion initiatives.
