RolePurpose:
As part of the Division Quality
- Metrology group, lead metrology tech transfer from R&D to production lines and provide leadership in problem solving and technical expertise in the metrology area.
- Lead metrology projects from concept through implementation to support R&D‑to‑manufacturing transfer and production readiness, including metrology planning, gauge development, system qualification, deployment, and production release.
- Collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams including QA, engineering, manufacturing, software and controls to implement robust measurement solutions.
- Develop metrology strategies for Victoria Rebuilds and Forge platforms in terms of gauges capability, capacity, lead time, and cost evaluation.
- Survey, develop, deploy and qualify new capable gauges and measurement systems to meet new test requirements for critical product characteristics including glass defects, glass size, weight, reliability, optical performance, mechanical characteristics, and other attributes.
- Design, improve, and validate new test methods using existing metrology systems, and support the design of fixtures and tools used in metrology systems.
- Develop measurement data reporting, traceability, usability, and data analysis applications when deploying new gauges or test methods; partner with controls and software engineers to develop operator interfaces, data collection systems, and databases.
- Document gauges engineering or operational work instructions and summarize measurement system development and qualification reports.
- Train users and provide technical support for deployed metrology systems.
- Provide metrology technical leadership in 2nd‑level troubleshooting, performing root‑cause analysis and implementing sustainable corrective actions for plant gauges.
- Lead metrology governance—gauge alignment, standardization, and MSA across internal plants, contract manufacturers, and customer sites.
- Evaluate current gauge capability and capacity, and drive continuous improvement, governance, and long‑term capability development.
- Work Monday‑Friday 8am‑5pm with flex hours for projects.
- Travel: 30%‑40% domestic and international, including Asia and Europe.
- Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Metrology, Precise Instruments, Optics, Machine Vision, Physics, Materials Science, Automation, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Knowledge of metrology—calibration traceability, data uncertainty, gauge qualification types, etc.
- 5 years of engineering experience in metrology, with 2 years of supervisory or project‑leading experience.
- Knowledge of MSA.
- Familiarity with MS Office, Minitab/Origin, Matlab/Python.
- Basic statistics and reporting capability.
- Experience with machine vision is a plus.
- Working experience in a test lab or glass defect inspection system development is a plus.

The range for this position is $–$ assuming full‑time status. Starting pay will depend on geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
