About Corning

The company built on breakthroughs. Join us. Corning is one of the world’s leading innovators in glass, ceramic, and materials science. From the depths of the ocean to the farthest reaches of space, our technologies push the boundaries of what’s possible.

Scope of the Role

This role serves as the Glass Technologist for the Gorilla® Glass division, with primary responsibility for raw materials and glass composition technologies supporting both current and next‑generation Gorilla® Glass products and processes. The position focuses on identifying gaps in raw material, composition, equipment, and process systems, while working cross‑functionally with batch, autofill, melting, forming, BOD, Product Engineering, Manufacturing, Commercial Technology, and R&D&E teams to ensure glass compatibility with downstream processing and customer requirements.

The individual will provide technical recommendations and help drive the delivery of new glass compositions, equipment, and process systems from R&D through Division Engineering into Manufacturing. They will also leverage materials, melting, forming, and BOD expertise to support cost‑effective growth, process optimization, defect reduction, problem resolution, and successful production implementation.

Responsibilities
  • Work with MCE Division Engineering, Gorilla Glass Plants, MTE and Characterization Sciences to develop, implement and migrate glass measurements and equipment to improve precision, accuracy and reliability of Gorilla Glasses.
  • Work with plant glass technologists to evaluate trends in chemistry, physical property and IOX data across glass compositions and locations, investigate root causes and propose action plans to make improvements.
  • Use engineering principles and data to provide second‑level assistance to solve operational issues related to glass technology and raw materials.
  • Support and approve experiments with raw materials and glass compositions.
  • Collaborate with internal customers, Development, Research, MCE Division Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, Mixing, Melting, Forming and Product Engineering for production including new or modified raw materials, raw material processes and technology.
  • Use KT, risk assessment, MEE, DMAIC, Innovation and other tools to deliver results.
  • Provide guidance and training to other personnel on how to perform testing properly.
  • Assist in the onboarding, validation and migration of new procedures and gauges through project work and SOP development.
Travel Requirements

Estimate up to 25% (mix of domestic and international). Most domestic trips will be one week or less. International trips will typically be 3 to 4 times per year and 1 to 2 weeks in length, but could be higher depending on project workload.
