Job Description

The instructional faculty member shall have the primary responsibilities of teaching legal communication and skills-based courses, as well as the performance of service functions. The instructional faculty member shall serve on law school and university councils and committees as elected or appointed. Faculty Scholarship Expectation:
Research and scholarship obligations that are not necessary to the fulfillment of instruction and service obligations are not required. However, to advance in rank or term of contract, scholarship and research performance, as defined by the Faculty/Staff Policy Manual and the Law School Supplement, is necessary and will be considered. As a doctoral‑level institution, LMU’s faculty duties, responsibilities, and reward systems support the scholarship trilogy of teaching, research/creative achievement, and service.

Consequently, the University will consider faculty development, workload allocation, merit pay, and promotion processes, which offer incentives for scholarly activities and achievements and promote faculty research productivity. Based on discipline, academic expertise, and institutional mission, elements of the evidentiary scholarly outcomes list (Faculty/Staff Policy Manual and Law School Supplement) should comprise the faculty member’s professional portfolio.
