Police Officer
The employee is responsible for performing prevention, detection, and investigation of crimes and accidents. Duties include protecting property, facilities, and people through law enforcement of laws and ordinances. The position operates under the direct supervision of the Police Sergeant / Deputy Chief of Campus Police and Security.
Responsibilities- Prevent, detect, and investigate crimes and accidents.
- Enforce campus, county, and state laws and ordinances.
- Operate law enforcement equipment including vehicles, radios, cameras, and firearms.
- Patrol the university owned properties under varied weather conditions.
- Maintain accurate logs, records, and accident reports.
- Direct and control traffic during campus events.
- Issue written citations and make arrests when necessary.
- Testify in court or legal proceedings as required.
- Respond to citizen complaints and emergencies with appropriate action.
- Minimum age of 18 years.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- U.S. citizen.
- No criminal convictions of felony or serious misdemeanor involving moral turpitude.
- No unreconciled service in the U.S. Armed Forces under non-honorable discharge.
- Fingerprints on file with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
- Pass a medical examination by a licensed physician.
- Pass a drug screen by a licensed physician.
- Good moral character as determined by investigative review.
- No apparent mental disorders per DSM‑IV criteria, certified by qualified mental health professionals.
- Valid Tennessee operator’s license.
- Pass a physical and agility test.
- Completion of a post‑approved Police Academy with satisfactory scores in firearms, physical education, and defensive tactics.
- Minimum of three years experience in security or law enforcement.
The employee will operate law enforcement equipment (vehicles, radios, cameras, etc.), patrol campus in various weather conditions, and handle dangerous scenarios. Physical fitness required, including short bursts of running, lifting, and carrying equipment.
