Working Hours: Tuesday to Friday, 6:00am – 4:45pm

This temporary 2-month contract role involves operating refuse collection vehicles to support the collection of household waste, recycling, and other environmental services in the Harrogate area. The successful candidate will be part of a refuse collection crew, ensuring efficient and safe collections in line with service standards. In addition to driving, the role includes assisting with loading activities as needed.

• Driving Duties
  • Safely and efficiently operate Class 2 refuse collection vehicles.
  • Conduct daily vehicle checks and promptly report defects.
  • Drive vehicles in accordance with road traffic legislation and council procedures.
  • Maintain vehicle cleanliness and safety standards.
• Refuse Collection
  • Collect household waste, recycling, and other designated materials.
  • Assist with loading bins and containers onto collection vehicles.
  • Return bins to appropriate locations after collection.
  • Complete collections according to planned routes and schedules.
• Health & Safety
  • Comply with all Health & Safety policies and procedures.
  • Follow safe manual handling practices.
  • Ensure the safety of colleagues, residents, and the public.
  • Report hazards, incidents, and near misses as required.
• Customer Service
  • Provide professional and courteous service to residents and customers.
  • Address enquiries and issues appropriately during collection duties.
  • Maintain positive relationships with the public.
• Team Working
  • Collaborate effectively as part of a refuse collection crew.
  • Support colleagues to ensure efficient completion of collection rounds.
  • Assist with operational duties as required by supervisors and managers.

Requirements:

• Qualifications
  • Valid Class 2 (Category
    
    C) Driving Licence.
  • Valid CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence).
  • Digital Tachograph Card.
• Knowledge
  • Understanding of road safety and driving regulations.
  • Awareness of Health & Safety requirements.
  • Understanding of manual handling principles.
• Experience
  • Previous experience driving Class 2 vehicles.
  • Experience in waste collection, environmental services, logistics, or a similar operational environment.
  • Experience working as part of a team.
  • Desirable:
    Previous local authority or waste management experience, experience driving refuse collection vehicles.
• Safe and responsible driving skills.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to undertake physically demanding work.
• Reliable and punctual approach to work.
• Ability to work efficiently under pressure.
• Strong awareness of health and safety requirements.
