Position: Associate for Finance and Accounting 2026

Position Overview

Administrator IV (SUOAF) – Full‑time, 35 hours per week.

Location:

CSCU System Office, 61 Woodland Street, Hartford, CT 06105. This position is not remote.

Position Summary

Responsible for complex accounting functions and financial reporting for the CSCU System. Provide functional support using a wide variety of accounting and financial systems as assigned, and give guidance to CSCU institutions regarding accounting and reporting issues and the appropriate use of automated financial systems to encourage consistent recording and reporting of financial transactions according to BOR policy, state and federal statutes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain current knowledge of GAAP standards and applicable State of Connecticut statutes and policies.
  • Maintain coding structures for financial activity and ensure accurate reflection in internal and external systems.
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations for Operating Fund, Bond Fund, General Fund, and Check Writing, investigate and resolve outstanding items, and maintain payroll reporting.
  • Review ledger accounts and advise institutions on correct practices.
  • Compile monthly Non‑appropriated Cash Status Report and other required reports for internal and external entities.
  • Prepare high‑level financial reports such as IPEDS, STIF, SEFA, GAAP, etc.
  • Perform year‑end GASB entries, including depreciation, accruals, and unrecorded liabilities.
  • Participate in preparation of year‑end audited financial statements and assist with external audits.
  • Prepare functional specifications for custom reports, test system upgrades, and document changes.
  • Collaborate with IT to troubleshoot user and system problems and provide solutions.
  • Develop and maintain procedure manuals and training documentation; provide functional training.
  • Conduct system‑wide year‑end fixed asset reconciliations and coordinate system office inventory.
  • Reconcile internal records to state records and reconcile accounts in various areas.
  • Process journal entries for vouchers, invoices, payroll recovery, and year‑end entries.
  • Assist in developing accounting and financial procedures, provide training.
  • Support system‑wide indirect cost rate calculations for grant proposals.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • At least four years of accounting experience, including preparing financial statements, working in a public or non‑profit organization, and evaluating accounting systems.
  • Proficient use of computer software, strong oral and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working with a culturally diverse environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Additional experience in higher education accounting and reporting.
  • Knowledge of higher‑education financial reporting requirements.
  • Experience with automated financial systems.
Salary & Benefits
