Staff Accountant
Job Description
The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting day-to-day accounting operations, grant accounting, revenue accounting, month-end close activities, reconciliations, and compliance requirements. This role works closely with finance leadership and operational teams to ensure accurate financial reporting, grant administration, and accounting integrity.
Responsibilities
+ Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations.
+ Support month-end and year-end close processes.
+ Reconcile bank accounts and general ledger balances.
+ Process account transfers, reclasses, and cash management transactions.
+ Assist with annual audits and financial reporting.
+ Maintain compliance with internal accounting policies and procedures.
+ Reconcile accounting and CRM systems.
+ Record and reconcile donations, pledges, and event revenues.
+ Maintain supporting documentation for revenue transactions.
+ Manage restricted funds and designation accounting.
+ Prepare related monthly reconciliations and reporting.
+ Manage assigned grant portfolios from a financial perspective.
+ Monitor grant budgets and expenditures.
+ Prepare and submit grant invoices.
+ Track grant reimbursements and funding utilization.
+ Record deferred and restricted revenue entries.
+ Ensure compliance with grant requirements and reporting deadlines.

Additional
Skills & Qualifications
+ Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred.
+ 2-5 years of accounting experience.
+ Grant accounting experience preferred.
+ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
+ Advanced attention to detail and organizational abilities.
+ Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint.
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
+ High level of discretion and professionalism.
Work Environment
This position offers a hybrid work environment. Initially, the role requires more in-office presence, with an expectation to be on-site 2-3 days per week once fully trained, allowing for greater flexibility. The office is located in the heart of Hartford, CT, within a strong, fast-growing non-profit organization.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hartford, CT.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $31.25 - $38.46/hr.
