  • Report on Connecticut’s ties with Puerto Rico and stories concerning Puerto Rican communities in both places
  • Collaborate with Connecticut Public’s Somos Connecticut Latino Initiative
  • Build sources, develop story ideas, and produce daily broadcast, digital, longer-term, project, and newsletter content
  • Collaborate on community engagement events and listening sessions
  • Engage Latino audiences through short-form video and platforms including Instagram, You Tube, and Tik Tok
  • Cover daily news and feature stories about food, music, arts, and culture
  • Interview sources, record audio, and communicate in English and Spanish
  • Research, write, report, edit, and voice stories and series for radio, online, social media, and newsletters
  • Collaborate with Connecticut Public editors and journalists, as well as GFR Media reporters and editors in Puerto Rico
  • Build a statewide source network and deliver people-centered digital, social, and radio storytelling
  • Collaborate with visual journalists during story development and field reporting
  • Edit audio and capture compelling soundbites and sound-rich scenes
  • Record audio in person, virtually, and from live streams
  • Serve as a resource for talk shows and occasionally appear on air
  • Serve as fill‑in host and on‑air fundraiser as needed
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or Communications from an accredited university or a similar field, and at least five to seven years of direct and sustained professional journalism experience, or a satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Fluency in Spanish, speaking and writing, and ability to communicate fluently in English and Spanish
  • Knowledge of AP and NPR style
  • Knowledge of Word, Excel, Audition, digital editing apps, and Microsoft Office/O365 applications including PowerPoint, Microsoft Project, Smartsheets, and Outlook
  • Knowledge of CT Public’s mission and purpose
  • News judgment and understanding of writing for radio and broadcast about Connecticut and Puerto Rico issues
  • Audio editing skills
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Reporting and writing for a digital audience
  • Ability to tell stories in words, audio, and video
  • Ability to adjust during interviews and work under deadline pressure
  • Ability to maintain journalistic standards of objectivity, balance, and fairness meeting CT Public, NPR, and PBS standards
  • Initiative, self‑motivation, and ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work collaboratively across remote and geographically distanced offices
  • Ability to make fast editorial decisions under pressure and strict deadlines
  • Ability to travel independently throughout Connecticut
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of medium work, including exerting up to 25 pounds of force
