Position: Legal Administrative Specialist (Contract Representative)

Legal Administrative Specialist

The Legal Administrative Specialist (LAS) serves as a member of the Public Contact Team, located in the Veterans Service Center. The incumbent provides in-depth information and comprehensive assistance to veterans, their dependents and beneficiaries concerning any matter within the scope of VA benefits and related non-VA benefits. Typical duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Counseling Veterans, their dependents, and their beneficiaries via phone, email, video chat, or in person regarding the full array of benefits available through the Department of Veterans Affairs, as well as non-VA benefits available through other organizations concerned with Veterans.
  • Assisting the customer with determining the short-term and long-term circumstances that might influence a choice between various Federal, state, and local benefits.
  • Explaining the types of documents necessary to facilitate timely processing of claims and aiding in obtaining and completing such documents and forms in accordance with the type of claim being submitted.
  • Explaining decisions and reasons for the decisions made by the VA and communicating the information both orally and in writing to the Veterans.
  • Performing claim-related work such as status updates, change of address, direct deposits, burial allowance claims, dependency claims, etc.
  • Initiating inquiries to resolve errors, delays, or other problems in obtaining benefits.
  • Assisting Veterans and their family/friend/significant others during periods of crises to include potential suicide, homelessness, or financial hardship.

Work Schedule:

Full time, varied work schedule to provide contact center coverage Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST). Tour will be determined after final selections. Tour is subject to change based on program needs.
