Position: Registered Dental Hygienist – Health Services

Reports To: Director of Nursing & Clinical Services

Provide dental hygiene services within the Hartford Public School System. Work collaboratively with other dental staff, including dentists, certified dental assistants and clerical support personnel to organize schedule and complete the provision of dental treatment for the students at the school-based dental clinics. In addition, provide outreach and adjunct dental services as scheduled in non-dental clinic school sites.

• All responsibilities normally held by licensed dental hygienists including but not limited to the following:
• Oral assessments
• Prioritize patients
• Prophylaxis
• Topical fluoride applications
• Oral hygiene instruction and follow-up
• Taking and processing dental radiographs
• Pit and fissure sealants
• Dietary analyses and nutritional counseling as applicable to dental health
• Triage emergencies: treat or refer to dentist
• Communicate with parents as necessary, to include informing parents of treatment provided, and future treatment that may be needed
• Assist dentist when dental assistant is not available

Management and operations of the school dental clinic:

• Maintain accurate records of school enrollment
• Organize clinic files
• Schedule patients
• Maintain guidelines, as per departmental policy (developed in collaboration with the State of Connecticut Department of Public Health)
• Maintain confidentiality
• Obtain and maintain current insurance/Medicaid information
• Complete billing information, process as per departmental policy
• Order supplies, maintain inventory
• Maintain statistical information
• Prepare and complete all mandated reports

School and community collaborations:

• Provide clinical oversight of dental hygiene students while on rotation
• Attend and participate in professional and school staff meetings and in-service programs
• Provide in-service programs to school/parent groups, as necessary

Other duties as assigned by Coordinator of Health Services.

RDH, Current State of Connecticut Licensure, Current and valid CPR certification.

Salary in accordance with Hartford Federation of School Health Professionals . Appendix A, Salary Schedule 5A: ($47,593-$73,042).
