JOB SUMMARY

The Education Director oversees the daily operations of the Eagle House Education Program, including referrals, admissions, academic instruction, and all administrative functions of a private special education school. This role provides direct supervision and evaluation of classroom teachers, the school social worker, the administrative assistant, and other designated staff.

The Education Director collaborates closely with Eagle House administrators, supervisors, and the Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility team to ensure continuity, safety, and high-quality services. The position holds primary responsibility for the academic and social-emotional curriculum and ensures full compliance with all State Department of Education regulations.

Additionally, the Education Director works in partnership with school districts across the state on student admissions and discharges, as well as the development and coordination of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Is responsible for the hiring, professional development, supervision, evaluation, and performance management of classroom teachers and the school social worker.
  • Is responsible for ensuring compliance with all federal and state educational requirements (e.g., curriculum, state testing, state-mandated data reporting) and adherence to the Principles and Standards governing approved private special education programs.
  • Ensures that curriculum and lesson plans are aligned with Connecticut State Standards and with individual students' IEPs.
  • Works as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Provides oversight of the school budget and expenses, including salaries, revenue, and related costs.
  • Is responsible for the oversight of academic assessments for new admissions.
  • Ensures the delivery of all required services to each student in the program.
  • Provides oversight of the school behavior intervention program.
  • Ensures that culturally responsive educational services are provided to all students.
  • Works closely with school districts and other agencies to ensure appropriate transition and discharge planning for students.
  • Collaborates with school districts to coordinate PPT and 504 Plan meetings.
  • Fulfills other responsibilities as determined by management.
  • Experience and Skills

    EDUCATION

    • Master's degree required and thirty graduate credits in education administration and supervision.
    • CT State Department of Education (CSDE) Intermediate Administration and Supervision Certification (092) is required and at least one of the following endorsement areas: comprehensive special education or an area of pupil personnel services (school psychologist or school social worker).

    EXPERIENCE

    • Experience in school counseling, social work or psychology is preferred.
    • Experience working directly with special education students in a school setting.
    • Knowledge of current special education practices and programs, student disabilities, and effective interventions.
    • Knowledge of mental health, child welfare systems, and community resources.
    • Leadership experience with demonstrated supervisory and managerial skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with diverse community agencies and programs as well as school district personnel across the state.
    • Strong written and oral communication skills.
    • Cultural competency to work with diverse client population.
    • Solid general computer skills, including the ability to work in a Windows environment using Microsoft Office.
    • Physically able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations, including ability to supervise groups of children.
