The State of Connecticut, Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS) is recruiting a THS English Instructor to join our team at A.I. Prince Technical High School in Hartford, CT and Norwich Technical High School in Norwich, CT.
To be considered for this position, English Instructors must possess an active State of Connecticut teaching certificate in one of the following areas: 015 English, 4–12; or be eligible for a State of Connecticut teaching certificate in subject area (includes ARC candidates).
Position Highlights- Schedule:
first shift, full time (35 hours per week) Monday through Friday. - Location:
A.I. Prince Technical High School, Norwich Technical High School. - Salary: VS01-VS02, derived from the State Vocational Federation of Teachers.
- Academic Calendar: CTECS follows a ten-month academic calendar (188 days per year).
- Engage in intentional planning to prepare lesson plans that achieve clear objectives, use appropriate techniques, and serve the needs of all learners.
- Knowledge of English content and pedagogy of high school English curricula.
- Understand the varied needs of each student.
- Work collaboratively with guidance personnel and other support service educators to assist students with special programming; ensure IEP and 504 accommodations/modifications are implemented.
- Set instructional goals and outcomes.
- Use varied instructional practices and resources.
- Effectively design instructional learning opportunities.
- Effectively design assessments.
- Develop mutual respect and rapport with students.
- Establish a culture for learning.
- Manage classroom procedures.
- Positively manage student behavior.
- Organize physical space to maximize learning opportunities.

- Follow the scope and sequence of the approved CTECS instructional program and curriculum.
- Design instruction to meet the needs of all students in both individual and small group settings as needed.
- Utilize assessments on an ongoing basis to design clear and specific learning tasks.
- Demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness.
- Reflect on teaching practices.
- Maintain accurate records.
- Maintain effective and ongoing communication with students and their families.
- Participate in building and district level professional development and collaboration, including committee work.
- Participate in professional communities.
- Demonstrate growth in professional craft.
- Adhere to the Connecticut Code of Professional Responsibility.
- Implement the CTECS Board of Education and administrative policies, rules, regulations, and directives.
- Maintain a positive school community image that encourages ethical student behavior.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding personnel, student, and operational concerns of the district.
- Report all cases of suspected child abuse to appropriate school personnel and authorities.
- Option to maintain State of Connecticut Teacher Retirement Plan or enroll in the State Employee Retirement System.

- Professional experience related to teaching English.
- Experience with 21st century standards-based lesson planning aligned to the CT Core Standards in English Language Arts.
- Experience with varied assessments to inform instruction and promote learning.
- Experience fostering and facilitating learning and classroom management.
- Experience communicating ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Experience working effectively and collaboratively with others.
- Experience with organizational and problem solving skills.
- Experience in teaching or substitute teaching and ability to demonstrate varied methods of lesson delivery, assessing student knowledge, and use of educational technology.
- Involvement in student and community activities.
Incumbents must possess at time of appointment a valid certificate issued by the Connecticut State Board of Education in accordance with the Certification Regulations Concerning State Educator Certificates, Permits and Authorizations, with a secondary school endorsement.
