The Webb Schools provide a comprehensive array of services to public schools, ranging from in-district consultations to student enrollments at one of our state-approved, special education schools located in Hartford. Our mission is to provide individually tailored programs for students in the least restrictive environment. We also provide consultation and education concerning mental health issues in schools to parents, communities, and school districts.
The Webb Schools continue to be open to advances in the fields of education and mental health. Position Summary:
The Director will develop and manage school initiatives while maintaining a financially sound therapeutic school environment with a culture of innovation, progress and safety. The Director will collaborate with educational, clinical and administrative leaders of the Institute of Living, Hartford Hospital and State Board of Education to provide for the needs of both special education and behavioral health students.
Key Accountabilities:
- Develop and lead both the mission and strategic plan of The Webb Schools in collaboration with Hartford Hospital/Institute of Living administration team
- Evaluate and monitor current educational programs, ongoing development of programs and services to support the needs of students, families, school districts, and the community
- Develop, monitor and manage financial budgets and key performance targets, while facilitating continuous process improvement
- Ensure that The Webb Schools meet all requirements set by the State Department of Education as a private special education facility
- Maintain knowledge on current issues related to the education of students to ensure the appropriate allocation of resources to meet the needs of students as identified by their IEPs (Individualized Education Programs)
- Lead and collaborate with clinical staff to ensure the smooth operation of programs to students' clinical and behavioral needs are provided
- Oversee hiring, orientation, supervision, and evaluation of staff, as well as other human resource needs, in collaboration with the Human Resources Department and in accordance with State Board of Education and Hartford Hospital guidelines
- Ensure the school environment is safe, both physically and emotionally, and provide colleagues with the tools and resources they need and are appropriate to the mission of the school
- Oversees The Webb Schools' programs and services marketing strategy
- Collaborate with parallel school programs across Hartford Health Care to promote alignment, share best practices, and support system-wide initiatives
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in special education or related field
- Three plus years of educational administrative experience, including Department Head, Coordinator, or Supervisor
- Certified Educator (065) specializing in Special Education credentialed from the Connecticut Department of Education is required
- Certified Educator (092) specializing in Administration and Supervision credentialed from the Connecticut Department of Education is required
- Mission driven, results-oriented and creative
- Knowledge of continuous improvement and project management
- Excellent customer service skills with a professional attitude
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Independent and disciplined with natural curiosity and ability to make connections based on multiple information sources
- Strong analytical skills with ability to conceptualize the big picture while managing small details
- Demonstrated experience in prospect evaluation, strategic planning and implementation
