OverviewThe Community Children’s Center provides full‑time early care and education services for homeless children and support services for parents, creating an atmosphere of safety, nurturance, and stability. A Teacher manages the daily supervision of children in their classroom, collaborates with Lead Teachers and Education Managers, and oversees Assistant Teachers while upholding all Horizons for Homeless Children policies and procedures.
Responsibilities- Curriculum: Display knowledge of early childhood development; design and implement a dynamic, creative, age‑appropriate, and multicultural curriculum.
- Behavior Management: Practice positive behavior management techniques to guide children’s behavior.
- Parent Communication: Inform parents of classroom curriculum plans (e.g., posting lesson plans) and customize communication systems such as bulletin boards and newsletters.
- Professional Development: Maintain an accurate PQ registry and complete the required 20 hours of professional development annually.
- Daily Communication: Communicate positively with children and parents; assist with parent‑teacher functions and conferences.

Participate in weekly team meetings and work closely with Family Advocates to promote healthy family relationships. - Classroom Management: Supervise Assistant Teachers, maintain health and safety standards, understand emergency procedures, organize schedules, coordinate transitions, and keep equipment in good repair.
- Documentation: Submit attendance sheets, accident reports, progress reports, and time sheets promptly and accurately.
Health coverage options are available with Horizons covering 70‑75% of premiums. Employees select between HMO and PPO plans, with bi‑weekly costs ranging from $117.77 for an individual to $370.44 for family coverage. This is a 40‑hour, full‑time position exempt from overtime. The teacher works Monday through Friday onsite at the Edgerley Family Horizons Center (1785 Columbus Ave, Roxbury, MA). Monthly trainings and evening events may be scheduled with advance notice.
Educational RequirementsDepartment of Early Education and Care (EEC) Teacher Certification is required. Minimum of 9 months to 1 year of relevant experience; at least 12 ECE credits preferred for EHS and HS classrooms. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or a related field is strongly preferred.
