The Studio Art Specialist provides leadership in the planning and implementation services in a group based vocational art program setting geared towards work in partnership with artists and staff to improve artistic skills and self-determination within the studios. This position will exercise significant judgment and initiative in art and production in the art world with individuals with disabilities.

In addition, the Studio Art Specialist position provides expertise and leadership in one or more of the following areas, including, but not limited to:
Art and production, Exhibition, Sale of artwork, Paper Graphics, Painting, Fabric Arts, Weaving, Fibers, Folk Art, Pottery, Art Making, Sculpture, Jewelry, Sewing, Exhibition, Documentation & Communication.

The essential job duties/responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the information listed below:

• Assists, teaches, and supervises artists in all areas.

• Provide coverage/assistance, as needed to support opening and closing of facility, daily coverage responsibilities.

• Leads exhibition schedule, theme & timeline for in-house shows. Selects artwork, oversees framing, presentation, and installation.

• Participates in monthly staff meetings, trainings, and supervision.

• Completes daily note keeping.

• Maintains ongoing communication with supervisor and co-workers to promote the reliable functioning of the art studio.

• Assists modality curriculum for studios.

• Oversees product development and critique in all studios.

• Oversees and implements teaching strategies that are productive and appropriate for artists.

• Supports facilitators as needed in the above areas.

• Commissions pieces (direct correspondence & delegation).

• Assists in training, supporting new facilitators/ job coaches when hired.

• Structures monthly facilitator meeting with specific agenda, timelines, etc.

• Maintains cleanliness and organization in studio daily.

• Works at annual events during evenings, as assigned.

• Promotes a supportive and empowering service environment in which artists learn to advocate for themselves, make their own choices, take risks, and assume additional responsibilities within the Art Studios.

• Collaborates with staff on specific projects.

• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Knowledge of formal and informal assessment practices and fundamentals in studio art

• Knowledge and use of problem-solving skills

• Ability to act as a positive role model for work and learning.

• Strong organizational skills

• Knowledge of documentation requirements

• Knowledge and use of different learning and communication styles

• Knowledge of participatory planning techniques

• Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.

• Ability to work in a professional and confidential capacity.

• Knowledge of personal computer applications and equipment

• Sensitivity to cultural, religious, racial, disability, and gender issues

• Knowledge of human, legal, civil rights, community, and other resources
