Part-time Percussion and Music Artist Instructor

The Ana Grace Academy of the Arts Middle School is seeking a part-time percussion and music artist instructor starting in the 2026-27 school year. Seeking a dynamic music instructor for an immediate need who possesses specialized training, experience or expertise in music, specifically drumming, and is mission driven, innovative, flexible and eager to work in a fast-paced school environment. The artist instructor must encourage, inspire and provide feedback on student's performance and development in a positive and constructive manner, while also encouraging decision making, problem solving and constructive analysis.

The position fits into an already extensive and established music curriculum. The successful candidate must have experience with drumming and other hand percussion. Additional areas of specialization, including world music, guitar, piano, vocal music or other specialties in the music arena, are also welcomed and encouraged. Position includes teaching three 67-minute classes daily, Monday through Thursday, as well as weekly staff meetings and other departmental events as scheduled.

The position involves 20.5 hours per week of work and is eligible for health insurance and other benefits, in keeping with the Capitol Region Education Council's Policies and Procedures.

Responsibilities include:

implementation and assessment of lessons to meet the need of all learners, recording of daily attendance, preparation of grades and comments on interim and quarterly reports for all students, communication with parents regularly regarding student progress, participating in meetings with parents, collaboration with non-arts academic subjects, representation of department at student concerts, competitions, productions, and recruitment activities, attending evening performances and open houses, participating in regular faculty meetings as well as professional development activities, preparation of documentation necessary to support department and school events, activities and curriculum development.

Requirements:
The successful applicant should (1) hold a bachelor's degree from an institution of higher education accredited by the Board of Governors of Higher Education, or regionally accredited, (2) have a minimum of three years of work experience in the arts or one year of work and two years of specialized schooling related to the applicant's artistic specialty, and (3) at least one hundred eighty hours of cumulative experience working with children in a private or public setting, including, but not limit to, after school programs, group lessons, children's theater, dance studio lessons, and artist-in-residence programs, or at least two years' experience as a full-time faculty member at an institution of higher education or been employed by an eligible inter-district magnet school prior to July 1,2011 and for at least one year.
