The interdisciplinary Educational Studies Program at Trinity College, located in Hartford,
Connecticut, seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Community-Based Education. The
successful candidate will contribute to Trinity’s strengths of community-engaged learning and
high-quality liberal arts education by teaching and researching in the area of community-based
education, broadly defined. We seek a candidate who is able to support our program’s learning
goals, including a commitment to educational equity and justice. We would also value a faculty
member who has experience with philosophical, historical, geographical, participatory,
quantitative, or other non-qualitative methodologies.
In addition to teaching in their area of expertise, the candidate should have the ability to
teach our core courses (including our introductory urban education course with
participant-observation placements in nearby Hartford public schools) and contribute to Trinity’s
Community Action Gateway for first-year students. The teaching load is 2/2 for the first two
years (and 3/2 thereafter), with a one-semester leave every fourth year. The successful candidate
will be eligible for start-up research funds and annual funds toward conference travel. Faculty
have excellent opportunities to collaborate with Trinity’s Center for Hartford Engagement and
Research and the Center for Urban and Global Studies, among others.
Trinity is a highly selective, independent, nonsectarian liberal arts institution located in
the capital city of Hartford, Connecticut. The college maintains a rigorous academic profile
complemented by a vibrant co-curricular program. With more than 2,100 full-time undergraduate
students, representing forty-three states and ninety-one countries, we consider our location in a
culturally and socioeconomically diverse capital city to be among Trinity’s most distinctive
assets; and we cultivate strong connections with our surrounding neighbors and with institutions
and organizations throughout Hartford and the region. As a preeminent liberal arts college in an
urban setting, Trinity College prepares students to be bold, independent thinkers who lead transformative lives.
