Driver's Education Instructor
The Broad of Education is looking for part-time, certified, driving instructors licensed by the state of Connecticut. Maintain Driving School Instructor License throughout employment. Effectively manage student driver caseload. Follow departmental guidelines and/or guidelines set forth by the Department of Motor Vehicles. Ensure each student driver completes the required amount of classroom and on road training. Schedule and manage in car and classroom training of teens and adults as needed.
Schedule and manage vehicle service/maintenance as well as accurate maintenance record keeping.
Must have an active Connecticut teaching certificate valid for grade seven or above with the driver education endorsement. Has held a Connecticut Driver's License for the past four consecutive years with an acceptable driving record. Complete a medical examination by a licensed physician who certifies that the candidate is physically fit to drive a vehicle and instruct in driving. Must authorize a fingerprint background check and the State of Connecticut Department of Children and Families background check.
Must have or be able to obtain a Driving Instructor License issued by the Connecticut DMV.
Excellent leadership skills; plus the capability to work in both a team and one-on-one setting. Ability to communicate both verbally and written with professionalism to teens as well as adults. Good driving record. Classroom sessions are typically during the day, but candidates must be available to do some occasional work on the weekends and/or evening hours. Candidates must have excellent leadership and management characteristics.
Ability to effectively teach in a classroom and in-car setting is a must. A self-starter who can operate with minimal direct supervision.
Work hours:
2:15pm-4:15pm (10-15 hours, depending on need)
