The State of Connecticut, State Department of Education is now seeking to fill the position of Education Bureau Chief overseeing the Office of Dyslexia and Reading Disabilities.

The Education Bureau Chief for Dyslexia and Reading Disabilities will oversee the Office of Dyslexia and Reading Disabilities. This office is responsible for ensuring compliance with requirements for Educator Preparation Programs (EPP) and applicants, including professional educator certification and statutes related to dyslexia instruction and training. The successful candidate will review and recommend necessary changes to the State Board of Education’s process for the approval of educator preparation programs related to these compliance requirements.

• Reviewing, identifying, developing, updating, and implementing evidence-based competency targets for structured literacy.
• Evaluating compliance measures for EPPs to ensure that they include literacy instruction and processes that reflect current research and best practices.
• Overseeing the development of model dyslexia in-service training programs for local and regional boards of education, aligned with identified educator competencies in structured literacy.
• Collaborating on the development of evidence-based reading assessments to identify students at risk for dyslexia or other reading-related learning disabilities.
• Appointing full-time staff as needed to support the operations of the office.

The ideal candidate will have experience and certification in integrated Early Childhood, Comprehensive Special Education and Remedial Reading, and a passion for applying data analytics to enhance the learning experience and support the development of highly effective educators for our children.

Salary Calculations:
For current state employees, salary calculations are not necessarily comparable from one of the three branches of state government (i.e., Executive, Legislative, Judicial) to the other.
