SUMMARY: A Process Engineer is responsible for optimizing manufacturing processes and systems by using their proficiencies to identify inefficiencies and make recommendations to improve safety, quality, cost, and productivity.
Responsibilities- Lead efforts to measure project effectiveness to help reduce costs and improve absolute efficiency.
- Work with operations team to continually improve production rates, efficiencies, yields, and costs.
- Lead role in developing and implementing new projects (includes key involvement in operator training and start-up support).
- Lead cross-functional teams for specific short-term improvement efforts (i.e. 90-day teams).
- Support shutdown/start-up planning and activities.
- Monitor and report on daily operating and quality parameters.
- Lead and coordinate plant process trials involving new procedures, process conditions, equipment, specifications, and/or chemicals, etc.
- Create and manage process documentation.
- Champion the use of area IT-based systems (i.e. PI, Proficy, Cognex, etc.).
- Varied, depending upon level of experience and demonstrated capabilities.
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in either Paper Science Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline combined with work experience in a process industry (specific experience in the Pulp & Paper industry is highly preferred).

- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Communication skills (i.e. verbal, written, and presentation).
- Relationship and leadership skills, including ability to clearly and concisely convey technical information to non-technical users.
- Problem-solving and project management skills, including the ability to think “outside the box”.
- Proficient use of standard engineering software and analysis tools (i.e. MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Highly organized, observant, detail-oriented, safety-minded, and efficient time manager.
