Our partner is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to lead the full lifecycle development of new firearm products and accessories. This role involves taking ownership from concept through production, ensuring designs meet strict safety, durability, and performance requirements and will report directly to the Director of Product Engineering.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the design and development of firearms and accessories including revolvers, semi-automatic pistols, rifles, and future product lines.
- Oversee prototype builds, testing activities, data analysis, and creation of engineering test reports.
- Conduct simulations and mechanical analyses to enhance product performance and manufacturability.
- Develop 3D CAD models and maintain documentation using PTC CREO and Windchill.
- Perform Design FMEAs, manage RAID logs, and produce complete Technical Data Packages.
- Stay current on materials, manufacturing methods, and firearm technologies.
- Support patent research, competitive analysis, and contribute to patent applications.
- Collaborate with cross functional teams across Marketing, Sales, Manufacturing, Quality, and Purchasing.
- Mentor junior engineers and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Prepare technical documentation for commercial, military, and professional clients.
- Participate in occasional domestic and international travel for testing, supplier visits, or customer engagements.
- BS in Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Minimum eight years of firearm design and development experience - candidates with less experience can be considered for the Design Engineer position.
- Candidates from precision manufacturing backgrounds (medical device, etc.) can also be considered for this role.
- Strong understanding of firearm mechanics, ballistics, and materials science.
- Proficiency in PTC CREO Advanced Simulation is a plus.
- Experience with MIM, injection molding, castings, forgings, and sheet metal design.
- Strong GD&T knowledge and experience with measurement tools.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and problem solving skills.
- Experience supporting products for commercial and government sectors.
- Passion for delivering high quality firearm products.
