Summary:
The Regional Engineer (location TBD) is a senior, hands‑on engineering role supporting Bodycote facilities across the region. Reporting to the Regional Engineering Manager, this position provides technical leadership for vacuum furnaces, HIP systems, and cryogenic tempering equipment, as well as associated facility and utility systems.
This role is field-focused and requires deep practical knowledge of vacuum furnaces, HIP vessels, vacuum and pressure systems, cryogenic processes, industrial controls, and utilities. The Regional Engineer will support equipment installations, commissioning, troubleshooting, training, maintenance strategy development, and compliance initiatives while serving as a technical resource to operations, maintenance, and leadership teams.
Essential Job Functions (Duties and Responsibilities)The primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provide engineering and technical support for vacuum furnace, HIP, cryogenic tempering, and installation projects across Bodycote locations.
- Deliver hands‑on field supervision and support during equipment installation, commissioning, start‑up, and troubleshooting activities.
- Troubleshot complex mechanical, electrical, and controls‑related issues, including PLC ladder logic, HMI systems, PID temperature control loops, sensors, pumps, blowers, compressors, and I/O systems (including legacy platforms).
- Support and improve preventive maintenance programs, maintenance standards, and equipment reliability initiatives for vacuum, HIP, and cryogenic systems.
- Develop and deliver site‑specific maintenance and technical training as directed.
- Interface with OEMs, system integrators, and vendors to support installations, upgrades, repairs, and technology improvements.
- Provide guidance to facilities to meet OSHA, environmental, pressure vessel, and cryogenic safety standards (program‑level guidance).
- Identify and recommend process improvements, cost‑reduction opportunities, and reliability enhancements, and support implementation once approved.
- Serve as a key communication link between corporate engineering, regional leadership, and site‑level teams.
- Provide clear written and verbal technical communication to Regional Management and Corporate Engineering.
- Perform work in compliance with EMS, safety, and ethical standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned, consistent with the scope of the role.
- ITAR Compliance Required – U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident Card Holder.
- Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related discipline) or equivalent hands‑on industrial experience. - Experience Level:
- 5–10+ years of progressive engineering experience with significant hands‑on responsibility.
- 10+ years of direct troubleshooting experience strongly preferred for candidates without a formal engineering degree.
- Extensive hands‑on experience with vacuum furnaces, including installation, commissioning, operation, and troubleshooting.
- Strong working knowledge of vacuum systems, including:
- Roughing pumps
- Diffusion pumps (10+ years preferred)
- Valves, piping, leak detection, and contamination control
- Hands‑on experience with HIP systems, including:
- Pressure vessels and closures
- Gas compression and intensification systems
- High‑pressure argon systems
- Safety interlocks and pressure control logic
- Hands‑on experience with cryogenic tempering systems, including:
- LN₂ bulk storage and distribution
- Cryogenic valves, vaporizers, and safety systems
- Temperature control and sequencing logic
- Strong experience with PLC and HMI systems, including:
- Legacy and older I/O platforms
- I/O diagnostics and calibration
- Experience with PID temperature controllers, thermocouples, sensors, and control loops.
