Job Description
The Derivative Designer is responsible for all aspects of the design process, transforming the initial conceptual design using CAD into working submittal documents and producing fabrication documents from them.
Responsibilities- Utilize information received from the System Design Leader/Project Design Manager to create submittal documents, shop and fabrication drawings.
- Understand project specifications, including typologies, areas, and systems used in various projects.
- Adhere to the project “Phases” determined by the Design Project Manager.
- Coordinate with the Design Project Manager to arrange any special conditions required by the project.
- Study and develop shop drawings, fabrication drawings, and PMF.
- Be fully conversant with the group’s design process.
- Mentor and instruct junior team members.
- Conduct a thorough first check of all work done by team members before issuing to the PDM.
- Complete any other duties assigned by the SDL or PDM.
- Supervise and assist with the production of all elevation, floor plan, and detail drawings according to the project working program.
- Report to the SDL and PDM any slips or deviations from the program that might occur.
- Ensure the derivative design drawings tally with the structural calculations.
- Perform other duties as needed by the specific business unit or department.
- Participate in safety initiatives and programs such as the safety committee, safety inspections, evacuations, and training, and apply safety policies and procedures in daily work.

- Bachelor’s degree preferred, or Associate degree (with relevant experience) in Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or Civil Engineering.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, and/or Solid Works; experience with Microsoft Office.
- 3–5 years of related experience; experience in construction or curtain wall industries is a plus.
