At the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), we are dedicated to conserving, improving and protecting our natural resources and the environment - and increasing the availability of cheaper, cleaner and more reliable energy. The Bureau of Air Management Engineering Division’s Air Quality Modeling and Emissions Inventory Unit provides air quality modeling for new emissions source reviews in Connecticut, as well as emissions inventory responsibilities.

Inventory responsibilities cover a wide range of engineering models, and estimating of air emissions from all point sources, mobile sources, non-point (or area) sources, and biogenic sources in Connecticut.

DEEP currently has a job opportunity for an Engineer Trainee for the Bureau of Air Management, Engineering Division, Air Quality Modeling and Emissions Inventory Unit. The target class for this position is Air Pollution Control Engineer 1 . Engineer Trainees receive training under the direction of a supervisor and senior staff before being promoted to Air Pollution Control Engineer 1 upon successful completion of the training period.

POSITION DETAILS

This position provides a unique opportunity to join a team committed to developing, maintaining, and reporting all air pollution emissions in the inventory for the State of Connecticut, as well as processing all modeling of the impacts of any new sources of air pollution in Connecticut.

Examples Of Duties Include But Are Not Limited To
  • Preparing comprehensive emissions inventory reports to support Connecticut’s compliance with state and federal air pollution statutes and regulations;
  • Employ tools, calculations and models to estimate air emissions from all sectors of the air emissions inventory;
  • Evaluating air emissions from all types of air pollution sources, including the verification of their associated control equipment efficiencies;
  • Reviewing annual emissions statements for accuracy, compliance and annual fee billing;
  • Collecting and providing data as needed to support other air bureau groups, other bureaus at DEEP, the EPA, and other external stakeholders;
  • Preparing detailed emissions reports for local, regional, and national environmental groups;
  • Attending formal training classes as well as self-study materials to enhance knowledge of the principles and practices of air pollution sources and their associated emissions;
  • Performing related duties, as required.
  • Salary

    Note:

    Upon successful completion of one year in this class, incumbents will receive a pay increase to $70,753/year.
