Compensation Overview
The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.
As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance‑based cash incentive awards.

What Is the Opportunity?Travelers' investment operations and accounting team serves as the steward of our investment portfolio financial information and controls to ensure compliance with all internal policies and external requirements. The team creates transparency about the health of the company by providing timely, accurate, and actionable information to all stakeholders. As an AVP, Accounting—Investment Operations and Finance, you are responsible for oversight and leadership for all financial and accounting activities across our fixed income investment portfolio area.
You will lead a team working to advance organizational objectives aligned with enterprise goals and ensure more informed strategic decisions. Leveraging your relationship‑building skills, you will build strong internal and external networks. You are an influential leader that can articulate how financial content can influence business strategy.
- Focus on fixed income investments, leverages business perspectives to lead robust financial analyses and operational perspectives with a focus on key performance metrics (production, profitability, expense management, staffing).
- Lead the development and creation of overall financial/business plan, budget, and forecasts.
- Partner with and influence across multiple functions to develop strong analyses and financial and strategic plans.
- Oversee internal management‑based financial reporting for complete and consistent results with corporate policies and standards.
- Oversee creation, accuracy and completeness of external financial statements (GAAP, SEC, STAT) with a comprehensive view of their impact on fixed income investments and the organization.
- Develop, maintain, and certify complex financial controls in accordance with Sarbanes‑Oxley requirements.
- Establish policy and oversee documentation to support internal and external audits while building and managing relationships with internal and external auditors.
- Oversee and ensure compliance with various financial external regulatory requirements and internal accounting policies.
- Oversee implementation of business and financial regulatory changes related to financial reporting, such as reorganizations, mergers and acquisitions.
- Provide coaching, training, and mentoring. If a manager of people, provide leadership, coaching, training, planning, staffing, and performance management and development to employees, while ensuring the understanding of departmental objectives, vision, and strategy.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, and/or professional designations such as CPA, CMA or comparable advanced professional education.
- Significant investment operations and related accounting experience for a broad range of fixed income asset classes including municipal, mortgage, structured, corporate and short‑term investments.
- Extensive experience with financial analysis concepts, principles, processes, applications and accounting practices within the insurance and financial services industry.
- Exceptional communication, collaboration, and influencing skills with the ability to present and influence complex information to senior leadership and functional partners in relevant business terms.
- Exceptional data analysis skills with the ability to interpret trends and report insights and recommendations to business partners.
- Proven track record as a leader who is well‑respected, highly organized, and able to mentor, coach, and develop team members, strategically aligning resources to accomplish key objectives.
